All youth contestants will receive a participation ribbon.

Rules &

Regulations

1. Individual and band performances are limited to five minutes.

2. Individual instrumentalists may only have one accompanist. 

3.A band shall consist of at least three and not more than seven musicians. 

4. Bands must include a fiddle, banjo, and guitar. 

5. Contestants may enter one instrument category, folk song, band and dance.

6. No adults may perform in Youth bands. Youth contest is for 15 yrs. and under only. 

7. Only Acoustic stringed instruments allowed in band, no electric instruments.

8. The Variety category includes any instrument not specified in other categories.

9. No amplified music can be played during the convention. 

10. In the event of any stage malfunction or instrument problems, contestants will be permitted to repeat the entire performance with no penalty.

11. By performing all contestants agree that the sponsor may record and reproduce performances at the Surry Old Time Fiddlers Convention free of claim. 

12. All tunes and songs must be from the public domain; no copyrighted music allowed. 

13. Judging will be based upon: tuning, timing and rhythm, tune difficulty, overall performance, and old time style.  The judges decisions are final.

14.  The no smoking, drug and alcohol laws will be enforced.

15.  No pets allowed 

16.  Violation of the above rules will result in disqualification of contestant.

17.  Individuals may play in only one band.

18.  Bass contestants will be judged out of the band.
